Your dues fund collective power — primarily organizing, defense, service, and contract administration — plus a portion sent up to the OPEIU International and the AFL-CIO. The current amounts live in the live dues schedule, not this course.
Dues can’t be raised without your vote. The process is deliberately unhurried: proposed, held over to a second meeting, announced with notice, and passed only by a secret-ballot majority of members in good standing.
You have choices. Political contributions (VOTE) are voluntary and separate from dues, and the law recognizes choices about the non-representational portion of dues — a legally sensitive area where the move is to ask leadership, not guess.
